A teacher on the dock
The events of the novel take place at the Al-Ihssan middle school, in the district of Nassajine "Weavers" in Algiers, and in the two courts of the minor offences and court of appeal of Algiers during the school year 2017 / 2018.
The novel's protagonist is Masoud Al-Saeb, a middle school Arabic teacher, who is in the last year of his career. Known for his seriousness and integrity, he devoted himself to his work and to the education of his daughter, Bushra, after his wife died during her birth.
Masoud Al-Saeb is called to the minor offences court as a witness in a case filed by a parent of a school student. He accuses the school of neglecting to protect his son because one of the students threw a firecracker, which injured his eye.
Meanwhile, thugs sent by the mayor attack Al-Burhan newspaper reporter Antar Awad to terrorize him. They threatened him to stop attacking the mayor and the entrepreneur, and denouncing their corrupt practices. The will of the late billionaire Ammar Hajj Ammar to donate two billion euros to the An-Nassajin district will also be announced. This district, which the mayor neglected, by building a new quarter, which he filled it with shops of imported goods. As a result, the factories and workshops of the old quarter closed their doors and unemployment spread everywhere.
